Our Staff

At Camp Sonrise, we are committed to hiring staff that not only provide a safe environment for your children, but also an enriching one. Our hope is that the Christian values taught and displayed by our staff will make a positive difference in the lives of our campers, and that each and every camper will view the Camp Sonrise staff as mentors and friends. In addition to our day camp training program, each of our staff members undergoes an extensive application process that includes government background checks. Our staff to camper ratio at Camp Sonrise is at least 1 to 5 for campers ages 5 and 6, and 1 to 10 for ages 7 to 12.

Joyce Malin, Program Director, is a retired art teacher from the Nashoba Regional School District. She is a Sabbath School teacher, mother of three sons, grammy of three grandsons and has been leading out with Pathfinders (similar to Scouts) for over 25 years. She has many years of experience integrating and coordinating curriculum and plans a fun and varied experience for each week.

Rosie Collado, Assistant Director, has worked as a counselor at Camp Sonrise since 2011 and will serve as the assistant director this year. She is a Biology major working toward attending dental school.  Her passion for God, incredible leadership skills, and intuitive compassion with the children make her a well-qualified member of our staff. Rosie will run Monday morning registrations.

During Week 1, we will be Investigating the Underground Railroad and the Civil war in Massachusetts. We will take a walk to a home in Lancaster that was part of the Underground Railroad System. We will solve the mysteries of how the "conductors" gave instructions visually and through songs. Our field trip will be to Civil War era Fort Warren on Georges Island in Boston Harbor.

During Week 2, we will be having Flora and Fauna Fun in Central Massachusetts. We will look for the many wonders of nature God has left for us to find close to home. Our field trip will be to explore Otter River State Forest with a park naturalist.

During Week 3, we will explore new Adventures in Art. At Camp Sonrise we have always used art as part of the way we approach the weekly topic, but this week we will look at Art as a way to express ourselves. Our field trip will be a visit to the Fitchburg Art Museum.
